The eyes and ears of various countries in Asia have been focused on the “2011 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA)”, which will be held in Singapore’s Indoor Stadium on November 29.
From November 1 to November 9, more than 2.24 million votes have been cast on the 2011 MAMA homepage (www.2011mama.com). In comparison to the same period of time last year, this was a 10-fold increase.
According to the country statistics, the rankings were as follows: Korea (19%), Thailand (11.2%), China (10.8%), Japan (8.6%) and Singapore (2.4%). Excluding Korea, it appears that more than 80% of the votes came from overseas fans. Compared to the previous year, this was an approximate increase of 13%.
In the “Best Dance Performance (Male Group)” category, “Mr Simple” (35.1%) from Super Junior, and “Why (Keep Your Head Down)” (34.9%)** from TVXQ, both of whom are groups who have been active in overseas promotions, are vying for the 1st place, engaging in a closely-fought battle. In the “Best Dance Performance (Female Group)” category, 2NE1 (31.3%) and SNSD (26.8%) are facing off for the 1st place.
The “2011 MAMA” is a music festival which does not merely include Korean singers who are leading the K-Pop fever, but also includes artistes from various Asian countries. From 5pm to 7pm, the red carpet will unfold. Following that, from 7pm to 11pm, the awards ceremony and performances will take place.
The “2011 MAMA” will be broadcast live in 13 countries, including Singapore, Japan and Thailand, while it will be broadcast at a later date in 7 other countries such as China, America and France. 1.9 billion people from 20 countries will be tuning in.
